Affiliate Marketing – A Residual Income Home Business Foundation
How many times have I heard people ask the question, “How can I really build a residual income home business to secure my financial future?” It may sound like a difficult problem to solve, but it isn’t. The answer is always the same. There are no magic bullets – it takes work. It takes a focused work ethic and a few guiding principles. But using affiliate marketing as the basic business model will get you well on your way.
Building the Foundation
The “secrets of success” in building a lasting residual income home business are not new. They just seem to be forgotten many times when things don’t seem to be going the way they should. Let’s take a look at a few tips that have served me well over many years of affiliate marketing.
This first is always about goals. It has never been truer than it is today – “If you don’t know where you’re going, you won’t know when you get there.” If you haven’t set a goal for where you want your income to be in one year, five years and ten years, than you absolutely, guaranteed will not be where you want to be in the years ahead. Read that again and think about it. Put your goals down on paper and look at them every day. Spend some time thinking about what your life will be like when you have reached your goals – DREAM.
Tactical Planning
Once you have your goals set, you need a tactical plan on how you are going to get there. The basis of this plan has to be a viable business opportunity that can generate and sustain the kind of residual income you want. There are many choices – an online business, a “brick-and-mortar” business, franchise or variations of all three. The easiest and least expensive startup is of course an online business that you can build and run from your home – an affiliate marketing business.
Now a discussion of all the different variations of online businesses and all the tools and techniques for building and growing an online business with a residual income is far beyond the scope of this article. However, the one model that you should consider is the affiliate marketing business model. Why – because you can get started with the least amount of money. Now make no mistake about it. If you have money to invest, even a very modest amount, the better off you will be and the faster you will see meaningful returns.
There are many affiliate programs that can provide a residual income. But selling products or services with a recurring monthly subscription or membership is the best way to start building a residual income. The programs you want to be involved with are those that will pay you an affiliate a commission on both the initial sale and a percentage of the ongoing monthly income stream. Most do, but some do not. Make sure you do your research.
Learning Affiliate Marketing
If affiliate marketing is so easy and so lucrative, why doesn’t everybody online use this business model? I get asked this all the time. The answer is, it’s just like anything else. You have to learn the business. You have to find the right training, the right tools and the right products. Plus, there are other good online business models and everyone needs to find out what is right for them.
Affiliate marketing is a science and a skill. It requires training and it requires time to learn. Unfortunately, today there is any number of guru’s proclaiming they have at last found the secret that will make anyone who follows their approach a guaranteed success. I know. I’ve spent a lot of money on the next great affiliate training program and the latest tool to take the market by storm. Most have been disappointments.
